Janet Youngdahl is delighted to be able to participate in the Lethbridge production of La Serva Padrona. Baroque music is particularly close to her heart. She has performed and recorded many Baroque works, including several discs of 17th century Italian music by Kapsberger and Castaldi for Toccata Classsicswith lutenists Victor Coelho and David Dolata. The CD Her Hand Has Done All This with Vivian Montgomery and Cecilia’s Circle for Centaur Records features cantatas by French Baroque composer Elizabet Jacquet de la Guerre with baroque violin, viola da Gamba and harpsichord. Appearances in Baroque operas include Dido and Aeneas with Christopher Hogwood and The Fairy Queen with both the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic, Orfeowith Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra, Acis and Galeatea with Julianne Baird and Venus and Adonis with the Early English Opera Society of London. Appearances in standard works as solo soprano include numerous performances of Handel’s Messiah, the Brahms’ Requiem, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, and the Mozart Requiem. Dr. Youngdahl holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Case Western Reserve University, a Master’s degree in voice from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the College of Wooster. She is an Associate Professor in the department of music at the University of Lethbridge, where she teaches voice and music history and conducts the U of L Singers.
