Artist-in-Residence, Principal Viola
Job Description (Contract to begin September 1, 2018)
The successful applicant will perform as Principal Viola with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the Symphony’s resident professional string quartet, Musaeus. Residency in or near Lethbridge, AB is required.
A typical concert season consists of six Symphony Series events, two to three Symphony Extras events, and two or three special events/concerts and educational outreach events.
The position, September 1st to May 31st, typically consists of weekly Monday night rehearsals with the orchestra. Additional rehearsals, including dress, are held before each concert, for a total of approximately 60 services per Season. In addition, rehearsals with Musaeus for Symphony Extras (typically six to nine services per event) and third-party bookings are scheduled separately as needed.
$13,980 (2017-18) annually, plus additional remuneration for Symphony Extras and third-party bookings. The Principal Player shall be considered a self employee professional, not an employee of the Association, and as such shall be free to pursue a career outside the operations of the Association, provided those activities do not conflict with services properly scheduled by the Association that require the Principal Player’s participation.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to Lethbridge, Alberta during the Spring portion of the 2017-18 concert season for an interview and audition process, including rehearsals with Musaeus and rehearsals and a concert with the Symphony. Transportation and lodging will be provided by the LSO for shortlisted candidates.
