Lethbridge Symphony Association

Based in Lethbridge, Alberta, the Lethbridge Symphony has been entertaining audiences since 1960 and it remains a vital part of the arts in southern Alberta, drawing audiences from Lethbridge and the surrounding area. Its mission is to create and promote a first class orchestra producing memorable musical experiences for audiences of all ages.

Currently, annual performances include: 6 Master Series concerts, 5 Chamber Series concerts, Kids Choir and Love Notes (a Valentines ball). Frequent collaborations with other arts organizations within the community include: Vox Musica, The University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop, U of L Singers and the Music Conservatory. The LSA is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual for the position of Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is primarily responsible for achieving the organization’s fund-raising objectives. In this role, the Executive Director will be expected to:

  • Achieve fund-raising targets as established by the Board of Directors.
  • Identify potential corporate sponsors and prepare written sponsorship proposals.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit donors to be part of an on-going giving plan.
  • Apply for grants at the Federal, Provincial and Local level.
  • Oversee and maintain the annual fundraising campaign.
  • Develop and produce materials for the annual campaign(s) and special events.
  • Provide strategic guidance and planning in developing campaign lists.
  • Work cooperatively with the Chair of the Fund Development Committee.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Providing guidance to office staff as needed.
  • Work with staff, Finance Committee and the board to prepare an annual budget.
  • Work collaboratively with office staff, volunteers, board members, musicians and patrons as required.
  • Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, media and the general public.

The balance of the Executive Director’s time will be spent on administrative duties. This will include ensuring program development by providing guidance to office staff as needed. Other key areas of responsibility include budgeting and financial planning.

Please clearly demonstrate on your application, in one or two short paragraphs, how you meet the following qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree in Management, Business Administration or equivalent is preferred.
  • A proven track record in meeting fund-raising goals, including identifying, cultivating and securing both corporate and individual donors.
  • At least 5 years experience in fundraising, preferably in the arts.
  • Strong interpersonal/human relations skills.
  • Willingness to spend additional time attending symphony functions and concerts outside of normal working hours.
  • Possess a passion for the performing arts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Grant-writing experience would be an asset.
  • CFRE designation
