Musaeus opens their season with guest, Sandra Stringer, performing Respighi’s Il Tramonto (The Sunset), a work set to Percy Shelley’s poetry, describing a romantic ballad. Mozetich’s Lament In The Trampled Garden is a work that is immediately approachable, highly idiosyncratic, and singularly captivating. Schubert’s Rosamunde Quartet will also be performed.

Mezzo-soprano SANDRA STRINGER, a graduate of the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of British Columbia, is a recent addition to the voice faculty at the University of Lethbridge. A native of Ottawa, Sandra was an Associate Artist with Opera Lyra Ottawa for two years where she appeared in several of their productions, most notably with roles in Aida, Die Fledermaus, and Madama Butterfly. Sandra has also been engaged as a guest soloist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, Thirteen Strings, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
During her years as a graduate student, Sandra was a member of the UBC Opera Ensemble, where she appeared in many of their main stage productions singing such roles as Cherubino in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Meg Page in Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible by Robert Ward, and Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Sandra has also participated in several UBC Opera Ensemble tours to Germany and the Czech Republic, where she sang several lead roles including Prince Orlofsky in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, the Fox in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Sandra may also be heard on the UBC Symphony recording of Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius as the Angel.
Sandra’s accomplishments also include her Vancouver Opera debut in the role of Flora Bervoix in La Traviata, the creation and performance of a production of Poulenc’s La Voix humaine, and her engagement for the Vancouver-based Opera Project’s production of Cosi fan tutte as Dorabella. In the 2006/2007 season, Sandra appeared in Vancouver Opera’s new First-Nations production of Die Zauberflöte as Second Lady and participated in the world-premiere of Quasimodo, or Our Lady of Paree with the avant-garde theatre company, Boca del lupo.
Since her arrival at the University of Lethbridge, Sandra has been heard in recital on several occasions and in performances with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra. She has also lent her directing talents to the University of Lethbridge opera workshop for the past three years. Sandra had the privilege of leading the opera workshop in 2010-2011 for which she directed and conducted two performances of opera excerpts entitled Opera Around the World as well as 3 operas for An Evening of Chamber Opera. This year, Sandra is pleased to lead the University of Lethbridge Women’s Chorus.
