Congratulations to the 2013 winner, Eleanor Yu, violin!

A panel of four adjudicators heard the finalists in live audition on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the University of Lethbridge Recital Hall, and they had such a tough job that they declared a tie! The final standings were:

Joe Porter, percussion :: Brittany Prazak, trombone tied for second place
Brynna Pokarney, flute in third place

Now in its twenty-seventh year, the Competition was started in 1985 through the generosity of the Helen Johnson Memorial Fund. Every two years, it provides talented young musicians from Southern Alberta a unique opportunity to perform in public, with the winner receiving a cash prize (sponsored by Bev & Mark Bellamy for 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019), and an invitation to play as a guest soloist with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra during the 2013-2014 Master Series.

Past winners include Matt Groenheide, percussion, 2011; Matthew Blackburn, piano, 2009; Emma Parkinson, soprano, 2007; Graeme Roset, piano, 2005; Magdalena von Eccher, piano, 2003; Marlie Grant, horn, 2001.
