2014-2015 University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop

Gypsies, toreadors, courtesans and lovers of all kinds are ready to sing for you during a special evening of song.

Featuring over 200 performers, this is a big, big night that you won’t want to miss!

“Opera is everywhere!” notes LSO Executive Director David Shefsiek. “The sounds are part of our contemporary soundtrack; you hear the music in films, commercials and at the theatre. Whether you have been to the opera house or not, you will know this music, specially selected to send you away humming.”

“We have a great partnership with the LSO,” adds University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop Director Dr. Blaine Hendsbee. “Over the years, we have presented full operas that have been embraced by audiences and helped our singers to progress in their studies. This concert offers a new opportunity. Some of our most advanced singers are ready to try out specific roles from operas that would be difficult to produce in their entirety, such as Carmen, La bohème, Tannhäuser. This concert gives them the chance to test the waters on these ‘big sings’ with an orchestra, and at the same time, bring this wonderful music to our community.”

“And no opera concert would be complete without some of the rousing choruses that are part of this huge art form. Verdi’s Anvil Chorus is a certain crowd-pleaser, as is the Act 2 finale of La bohème, which features not only Vox Musica, but also the children’s chorus from Lakeview Elementary.”

Combining the musical forces of the LSO, Vox Musica and the University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop, and with opera’s popularity in our community, Southminster United Church is going to be full indeed. We have less than 50 tickets left – get yours now to avoid disappointment!
