Kids Choir returns to Southern Alberta

Children are set to celebrate different cultures and holiday customs this week as the Lethbridge Symphony presents another Kids Choir event. Now in its sixteenth year, Kids Choir is a fun way for elementary school choirs to experience performing with a live orchestra, as they sing with members of the Lethbridge Symphony.

Executive director Nick Sullivan says he’s looking forward to seeing what the local choirs put together.

“The wonderful songs that the teachers find are just a delight, and the kids just have so much fun with the whole experience. It really puts you in a holiday mood and kicks off the Christmas season beautifully.”

Choirs submit the selections they wish to perform, and through the generosity of Pratt & Whitney Canada, the LSO arrangers go to work to orchestrate the piano accompaniment for chamber ensemble. Over 200 choirs and 8000 students have participated so far, and this will be the sixth year Kids Choir is presented in collaboration with the University of Lethbridge Conservatory of Music, which provides the choirs with the opportunity to have a clinician work with them in the weeks prior to the concerts.
