Toonies for Turkeys Campaign Returns during Nutcracker Performances

In addition to preserving traditions and sustaining culture in our community, as well as presenting live music, the Lethbridge Symphony also provides support to those less fortunate.

Join the Lethbridge Symphony, ballet dancers from across the community, and the University of Lethbridge Conservatory Choirs as they perform Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker on Friday, December 15 (7:30 PM), Saturday, December 16 (3 & 7:30 PM), and Sunday, December 17 (3 PM) at the University of Lethbridge Theatre. Bring along some toonies for bottled water or non-alcoholic drinks, with half of the proceeds going to local families in need through our Toonies for Turkeys program. Funds raised will assist Interfaith Food Bank with food purchases this Christmas – turkeys in particular!

Tickets are available online any time, and by calling the Symphony Box Office 403.328.6808 x101 (M – F, 1 to 5 PM), range from $25 – $75. Tickets are moving quickly, and the Symphony does expect all four shows to sell out this year.

“It is wonderful to see local agencies supporting our cause,” says Danielle McIntyre, executive director with Interfaith Food Bank, “it is a challenge for many of our local charities and non-profit societies just to fulfill our own mandates and objectives – it is so nice to see the support from one local group to another”.

“Christmas is about community,” notes Melanie Gattiker, executive director with the Lethbridge Symphony, “and what better way to celebrate that than to bring people together and assist Interfaith Food Bank in their mandate to help those who are struggling to make ends meet.”

Patrons at last year’s Symphony Christmas performances were happy to contribute to Interfaith Food Bank while attending the Messiah, by bringing along toonies for bottled water, and this year’s audience will certainly do the same. 50% of the proceeds go to Interfaith Food Bank, which puts the funds to good use assisting local families in need. With such a great tradition across the region of non-profits helping one another out, even in tough times, it is important for community groups to communicate, connect and support one another to build and support our community at large.
