Norbert Boehm

Concertmaster


Norbert Boehm has served as concertmaster of the Lethbridge Symphony since 1976. He holds degrees from the University of Alberta and University of Oregon. He is married to Patricia Leister with two adult children and three grandchildren. When not playing his violin or the ukulele he may be running, cycling, camping, flyfishing or gardening.

Lise Boutin

Lise Boutin is a violinist originally from northern Quebec.  She holds a Masters Degree in Performance from the University of Toronto where she studied with Lorand Fenyves and Ruggiero Ricci (Ann Arbor, Michigan) and the Orford String Quartet.

Deanna Belanger

Deanna Belanger grew up in Lloydminster, SK where she started playing violin at the age of 4 in a Suzuki Violin program. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Lethbridge and has been playing with the Lethbridge Symphony since 2001. She also completed Suzuki Violin teacher training in books 1-4 and has been a Suzuki Violin teacher since 2005.

Lisa Gallup

Lisa graduated from the Suzuki Talent Education Program in Edmonton, where she has many fond memories including being able to travel to Japan and Korea to attend the Sixth International Suzuki Conference and attend classes taught by Dr Suzuki. Lisa has since retired from Dental Hygiene, is almost an “empty nester” after raising 4 kids, and is delighted to join the LSO and rekindle her love for music.o coming soon!

Jessica Groeneveld

Jessica has been playing with the Symphony since 2013. She completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of Lethbridge and currently teaches violin with the U of L Conservatory of Music.

Valeria Lazzaretto

Valeria, also known as Val, was born and raised in Lethbridge, and she received all of her formal schooling in the local area. She was an educator in Lethbridge for forty years, but rounded out her career on the administrative side of things for the last twelve years. Val has three adult children who have also been involved in music and fine arts activities throughout their development.

Alayna McNeil

Alayna is 17 years old and I have been playing the violin since I was six. She joined the Lethbridge Symphony in 2016, also play with the youth orchestra (Symphonia Allegro) and has been a part of the Young Artist’s Music Academy for two years. In addition to violin, she plays horn in the concert band at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute and trombone with the jazz band.

Gabriel Kastelic

Principal

A native of Lethbridge, Gabe joined the LSO as a student in 2004. After moving away to pursue an education in music performance he returned to the orchestra in 2018 in the Principal Violist position. Gabe is thrilled to be back in the Lethbridge area along with his wife Grace and sons Jack and Felix.

Mark Rodgers

Principal

Mark Rodgers was born in Winnipeg into a musical family, where he first studied piano with his mother.  He changed instruments to the cello early on and studied with James Hunter in Victoria, B.C., and later at Brandon University with Malcolm Tait while completing a Bachelor of Music.  A Master’s Degree from the University of Western Ontario followed, where he studied with Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi.

Sarabeth Baldry

Assistant Principal

Sarabeth Baldry was born and raised in Calgary.  She began her musical training with John Kadz at the Mount Royal Conservatory. She went on to study with Amanda Forsyth and completed her Bachelor’s of music at the University of Calgary. She continued her musical training with Tanya Prochazka and finished her Master’s degree at the University of Alberta. She currently lives in Raymond with her husband and eight children

George Fowler

Based in Lethbridge since 2006, George grew up studying cello and playing classical and Celtic music in Scotland but has also lived in Russia (where he studied balalaika) and France (where he learned a few chansons). In addition to performing in the LSO, Cellissimo and other groups, George is a singer/songwriter/guitar player with Celtic/world/rock ensemble Junkman’s Quire (www.junkmansquire.com).

Bonnie Wilde

Bonnie Wilde was born and raised in Lethbridge and studied cello with Robert Bardston in Medicine Hat. She attended the University of Alberta and studied cello with Tanya Prochazca where she received a bachelor of Music. Afterwards she attended University of Lethbridge and received a bachelor of Education.

Bree currently studies under Christine Bootland in Medicine Hat, but has played cello since the age of 5. She is honoured to play with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra and enjoys the camaraderie of such esteemed musicians.

Casey Ling

Assistant Principal Double Bass

Assistant Principal Double Bass with a Bachelors of Music from the University of Lethbridge, Casey Ling has been playing with the Lethbridge Symphony for four years and bass for nine. After studying under Yukari Sasada at the University of Lethbridge and playing in a multitude of ensembles, Casey now runs a non-profit music program for at-risk youth.

Keely Evanoff

Keely Evanoff is a double bassist in her rookie season with the Lethbridge Symphony. She is also currently attending the University of Lethbridge working hard at her degree in tuba performance.
