Jodi Groenheide graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Masters of Music in Percussion Performance where she studied with Dr. John Wooton. She completed her Bachelor of Music in Flute and Percussion Performance at the
University of Lethbridge where she studied with Adam Mason and Sarah Gieck.

Jennifer Dosso

Jennifer Dosso developed her love of music through the wonderful choral and instrumental music programs in her hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland, where she completed her Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degrees in 2011. Jennifer is now a school teacher in Lethbridge where she spends time with her husband and two children.

Jace Eagle Bear

Jace began playing the oboe in high school, and in university trained under David Sussman. He currently works in Calgary, where he is an in-demand clinician. Besides oboe, he also learned the erhu, and serves as the concertmaster for the Calgary Chinese Orchestra.

Joelle Strang

Joelle Strang, an oboist, has been playing with LSO for nearly 10 years. She grew up in Winnipeg where she learned to play the oboe in junior high and continued playing through high school. In 2009, she moved to Lethbridge and to pursue her studies and completed a Bachelor of Music degree in 2013; upon graduation she was awarded the Faculty or Fine Arts Gold Medal.

Esther Vonkeman-Roset

also English Horn

Esther Vonkeman-Roset began playing oboe at the age of 9, and has performed with the Lethbridge Symphony since 2003. In 2007, under the instruction of David Sussman, she obtained her Bachelor of Music (with Distinction) in music performance (oboe and English horn). Esther has a career as an Environmental Scientist, but continues to perform with various musical groups throughout Lethbridge, and teaches oboe and English horn as a clinician and private instructor.

Joan Rogers

Principal, also E-Flat and Bass Clarinet

Joan has played clarinet with the LSO since September of 1977, minus two years while she was away at school. That makes 40 years in the clarinet section! During the day, she is a teacher with Holy Spirit Catholic Schools, where she teaches Junior High Math and options, as well as some Elementary Music. She loves to read, solve crossword puzzles, and loves a good cup of coffee.

Erin George-Samuel

also E-Flat Clarinet

Erin George-Samuel has lived in Lethbridge for the last 15 years with her spouse Ross and their 2 ½ year old son. Erin is currently the choir and popular music teacher at Wilson Middle School for School District 51 in Lethbridge. Although Debussy’s “Clair de lune” is Erin’s favorite musical piece, her favorite artists are both Canadian singers and composers; Sarah Slean and Melissa McClelland.

Robert George


Robert George joined LSO and U of L Conservatory in 1993 and is our current Principal Bassoonist. He is founder and music director of the IAM Music Society. Robert studied at the Universities of Lethbridge, Calgary and Arizona. Mr. George is actively involved in research regarding the musician/athlete and healthy performance practice. Robert has three adult children, Catherine (Principle Bass in LSO), Laura and Allison and two grandchildren. His hobbies include racquetball, cycling and golf.

Timothy Janzen

also Contrabassoon

Timothy Janzen started playing the Bassoon in grade grade 7 and quickly joined Robert George’s Bassoon studio. Tim continued to study Bassoon with Bob throughout grade school and got his first opportunity to perform with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra when he turned 16 (1999). 

In 2001, he was given the role of 2nd Bassoon and has had pleasure to sit beside his instructor/mentor in the Bassoon section ever since. Tim also plays the contrabassoon parts as required, and is in his 8th year as the Orchestra Musician’s representative to the Board of Directors. 

Tim attended the University of Lethbridge, completing both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biochemistry.  He currently works for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, participating in both Research and Diagnostic testing roles for the Government of Canada.
