Keith Griffioen

Co-Principal Trumpet

Keith Griffioen began playing the trumpet at the tender age of 3 and cannot remember a time when a trumpet wasn’t part of his life. He has lived in Lethbridge since 1998 and is in his 15th year with the LSO. Keith also plays with the Lethbridge Big Band, Polkaholix, and the Aeris Brass when they periodically meet, and often played for Lethbridge Musical Theatre as well. To date, he has performed as a soloist and section leader on tours that covered seventeen countries. He received his Bachelor of Music in performance from Western Washington University and holds a B.Ed and M.Ed from the University of Lethbridge. He is currently completing the final stages of his Doctor of Eduation dissertation with the University of Glasgow, hoping to be completed early next year. Throughout his career, he taught band, choral, Canadian history, and other subjects over a fifteen-year teaching career in Lethbridge, as well as teaching Music Education and Evaluation and Assessment at the University of Lethbridge. Keith is married to Jennifer and they have two children: Daniel (a saxophonist) and Sophie (just beginning baritone).
