Jean Sibelius and Antonín Dvořák in one night? That’s a chamber music dream come true!
First, immerse yourself in the emotional depth of Sibelius’s String Quartet in D minor, Op. 56, “Voces intimae” (“Intimate Voices”)—a five-movement masterpiece filled with whispering conversations, quicksilver scherzos (there are two!), and deeply expressive melodies that pull you right into the music’s inner world.
Then, the energy picks up as special guest Catherine McLaughlin, principal double bass of the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra, joins MSQ for Dvořák’s String Quintet No. 2 in G major, Op. 77. The double bass adds rich depth and warmth, bringing out Dvořák’s signature folk-inspired character in this perennial favourite.
